Obituary

Funeral services for Tommy Samuel Saxon, of Calhoun, LA will be held Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 12:00 PM at New Chapel Hill Church in West Monroe with Rev. Jeff Luellen officiating. Family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service.

Tommy lived 76 amazing years. “Sax”, as he was known by many, was born November 30, 1943 and passed from this life on July 28, 2020. Tommy loved his country and served as a soldier in the Army Reserves and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Tommy was loved by many. He owned “Tommy Saxon Barber Shop” and was fortunate to do what he loved for nearly 60 years. He was a family man who always put his family first. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Tommy was an avid fisherman, and when he could, he and his wife, Rita would spend most of their weekends at the lake. They loved spending time together outdoors catching the most white perch and noodling for catfish. The fish would always run and hide when Tommy was out on the water…the white perch are now safe to come out of hiding. The Drew community will definitely miss Tommy Saxon and his tall tales.

Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. “Bum” and Jeanette Saxon; brother, Jerry Saxon, and Son-in-law, Stephen Crowell.

Survivors left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of 34 years, Rita Saxon of Calhoun, LA; three children, Kirk Saxon and wife Shelia of McKinney, TX; Angie Miller and husband Dusty of West Monroe, LA; Derek Saxon and wife Jayle of Calhoun, LA; Step-son, Joshua Jackson of Calhoun, LA; brother, James Saxon and wife Jackie of Roanoke, TX; sister, Ann McGee and husband Bruce of Columbia, LA.

Also left to cherish his memories include his grandchildren, Wade Saxon, Taylor Book and husband Nathan, Makenzie Miller, Hank Saxon, and Jerrica Hall; great-grandchildren, Henry Joseph Book, Natalie Jane Book, Cambryn Hall, and Lillian Hall.

Pallbearers to honor the memory of Tommy will be; Hank Tarver, Brian Craighead, Wess McCurdy, Richie Chapman, Keith Williams, and Johnny Lindsey.
Honorary pallbearers will be; Richard Norman, Larry Saxon, C.E. Snyder, and Rock Smith.

Rita and Angie, Derrick and all of the children and grandchildren We are so sad to hear of Tommy's passing and we will be praying for your hearts to heal.
Tommy gave our son Colton his first haircut and all but 3 haircuts in his 17 years! I still have the certificate and lock of hair that Tommy so thoughtfully gave us commemorating that haircut and he had to work for it too! I was holding him, and Tommy was cutting while Colton was fighting for his life to get out of the chair!
Tommy will remain a strong figure for this community and he will be greatly missed but so wonderfully remembered. Please find comfort in the fact that he was so loved and respected and that he so graciously touched the lives of so many who will remember him with a smile.
With all of our love and God's Blessing
Janet, Lionel and Colton Reed
