Betty Jane Rhyan
Betty Jane Rhyan, 93, of West Monroe, LA, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018. Betty was born February 22, 1925 in El Dorado, AR to J. Marshall and Tressa (Nowles) Newsom. After graduating from El Dorado High School in 1942, Betty worked as a secretary/receptionist until she married William C. Burley in 1951. Bill passed away in 1985. Betty married J.K. Rhyan in 1990. J.K. died in an accident in 1993. Betty was an active and involved member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in El Dorado for over 50 years. In 2010, Betty moved to West Monroe, LA to be nearer to family. She was the epitome of a classy and godly woman!
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine Burley Fincher and her step-son, Billy Ed Burley. Betty will be missed by her daughter, Cindy Barnica and husband, Lynn; grandchildren: Robert Barnica and wife, Melissa, Roy Barnica and wife, Brynna, Elizabeth Martinez and husband, Jason, Laura Rodgers and husband, Nat, and Samuel Fincher and wife, Amber; step-grandchildren: Marla, Brianna, Amber, and their families; great-grandchildren, R.J. Barnica, Zachary Martinez, Abigail Briggs, and Wilson Rodgers. She will also be missed by her siblings, Mary Frances Slaughter, J. Robert Newsom, Relda Bateman, and Marsha Odom, and by many nieces, nephews and friends, especially her caretaker and friend, Lisa Setliff.
Graveside services will be held at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in El Dorado, AR on April 14, 2018 at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Monroe, LA or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
