William "Skip" Calvin Dupree, Sr., 67, was born at home in West Monroe, Louisiana, on November 30, 1953, and he passed away peacefully in Columbus, Kansas, on Monday, December 7, 2020.
Visitation for Mr. Dupree will be from 10am - 11am on Sunday, December 13, 2020 with services to follow, which will be officiated by Ron Lowe, family friend. Mr. Dupree will be laid to rest in Garden of Pines at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, Louisiana.

William was a welder by trade and was employed with James Machine Works for over 29 years prior to being forced into early retirement due to a medical diagnosis. He thoroughly enjoyed his job, and his work family was an extension of his immediate family.

Mr. Dupree’s early retirement was followed with a lengthy cancer journey, which began in the fall of 2017. Upon a confirmed diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma, he was immediately referred to the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, UAMS Myeloma Center, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had an amazing medical team at this forefront facility, who ordered an aggressive treatment plan of a stem cell collection, a transplant of those harvested stem cells and chemotherapy resulting in remission once the treatment plan was completed. His children ensured he received the best medical attention possible, and they accompanied him every step of the way.

William loved both of his children unconditionally, but there was a bond like no other between father and son.
William became an avid sportsman at a very young age, and he was a member of Vixen Hunting Club most of his adult life. He would anticipate each year’s months of hunting opportunities with such excitement. He especially enjoyed his annual hunting adventure to Kansas, as this was his ideal vacation. He found tranquility in being able to sit in the wilderness and listen to what nature had to offer. He also took pleasure in spending a nice day out fishing, and occasionally participated in the Ronald McDonald House Ouachita River Big Bass Tournament.

William had a small herd of cattle that he enjoyed tending and simply just sitting and watching them graze.
William touched so many lives during his lifetime. He was always there to lend a helping hand or offer a friendly piece of advice, and he will be missed dearly.
Mr. Dupree was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Marie Bryan; brother, Robert David Dupree; grandfather, William Roland Dupree.

William is survived by the mother of his two children, Brenda Dupree; daughter, Melody Lovelady and husband, Kenny; son, William Dupree, Jr.; grandsons, Tristen Lovelady, Ethan Dupree, Ezra Dupree; brother, Richard Burns and wife, Annette; brother, Jimmy Lee Armstrong; sister, Kathy Hollis and husband, Dennis; niece, Amanda Domangue and husband, Ethan; great niece, Alexa Johnson; great nephew, Zachary White; and a host of extended friends and family.

He was also survived by special friend and companion, Deborah Taylor; her children, Robin Taylor, Christina Henry, Thomas Taylor, Johnathon Taylor, Joshua Taylor and a host of her grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Steve Howard, Billy Almond, Bo Coates, Darrell Knighten, Ronnie Mullins and Floyd Newsom.

Skip’s children, Melody and Bubba, send a heartfelt thanks to Steve Howard. Your loyal friendship, compassion and kindness for our father will never be forgotten. You hold a very special place in our hearts, and you will forever be a part of our family. Thank you for everything. We love you very much.

We would also like to send a special acknowledgment of thanks to all of our father’s medical professionals: Dr. Sharmilan Thanendrarajan and Nadine Baxter at UAMS, Dr. Coy Gammage and Shelia McClendon at Oncology Associates, Gregory Sampagnaro at Affinity Health, Roland Ponarski at Glenwood Medical Mall, Clement Fox at St. Francis Pulmonary Clinic, Mr. Discount Drugs’ entire staff and everyone else who has provided him with health care over the past three years.

Melody and Bubba, watching your teamwork to take care of your dad when he fell ill touched my heart and made me so proud of you both. There was truly no length the two of you would not go to in order to take care of your dad. Bubba, my heart is broken for you as I know the bond you had with your dad. It will live on in how you’re raising your sons. I am so proud of you.
