Obituary for Shirley Hicks Freeman

Funeral services celebrating the life of Shirley Hicks Freeman of West Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Cedar Crest Baptist Church in West Monroe with Rev. Greg Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

Family will receive friends for visitation Monday, October 21, 2019 from 5pm-7pm at Griffin Funeral Home, 911 Warren Drive, West Monroe.

Shirley Hicks Freeman, 83, passed away on October 19, 2019 at home surrounded by her children in West Monroe, Louisiana. She was born on May 21, 1936 in West Carroll Parish in Louisiana to Edward I. Hicks and Jesse Myree Tomlinson Hicks.

Shirley married Wallace E. Freeman on May 5, 1962 in West Monroe, LA. They were happily married for 49 years. They raised four children Johnny Ray, Yvonne, Terri, and Robert Earl. Wallace and Shirley made their home in West Monroe, Louisiana where she was a wonderful wife and dedicated mother and grandmother. Shirley was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church, West Monroe LA. The family extends their deepest love and thank you to Premier Hospice for their care and love given to Mrs. Freeman.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Wallace Earl Freeman, her parents Edward I. Hicks and Jesse Myree Tomlinson Hicks, her five brothers and one sister, grandson Tomas Michael Freeman.

Shirley is survived by her children, Johnny Ray Freeman and wife, Linda & children of Downsville, LA, Yvonne Carter and husband Robert & children of Sterlington, LA, Terri Lynn Lockard and husband David & children of Monroe, LA, Robert Earl Freeman and wife Christy & children West Monroe, LA; sister, Mrs. Eddie Myree Delamar;, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; Also survived by nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephew.
