Obituary for OC Watson



Funeral service celebrating the life of OC Watson of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, March 10th, 2022, in the chapel of Griffin Funeral Home, 911 Warren Drive West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Ronnie Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Calhoun, under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home. Family will receive friends for visitation starting at 1:00pm until the time of the service at the funeral home. OC was born on October 13th, 1933, and passed from this life on March 7th, 2022 at the age of 88.

OC was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He loved hunting and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed planting flowers at his home for his wife of 66 years- Barbara Watson. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in Korea and Japan, and later retired from the National Guard after 27 years of service. He also worked as a truck driver for several companies while logging over one million accident-free miles, as well as a lab courier for St. Francis Medical Center Laboratory. While working for St. Francis, he received the Franciscan Award given out through the medical center.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Odie Clarence Watson Sr. and Lena Whittington Watson; his sister, Elaine Buckley and her husband Sydney, as well as his beloved fur babies, Muffy and Precious.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 66 years, Barbara Watson; his daughter, Lisa Carpenter; grandchildren, Claire Griffin and her husband Gabe, C.C. Carpenter and his wife Maddy; brother, Melton Watson and his wife Susan; he is also survived by two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers include Claire Griffin, Gabe Griffin, C.C. Carpenter, Mark Carpenter, Scott Love, and Brady Lancaster. Honorary pallbearer serving is Matt Williams.

Special thanks to caregiver, Connie Wallace, Glenwood Medical Center emergency room, ICU, and comfort care staff, as well as all staff at Courtyard Health & Rehabilitation and Life Touch Hospice.
