Obituary for Mary Katherine Faulkenbury

Mary Katherine Faulkenbury passed away March 6, 2021. She was a life-long resident of Morehouse Parish. She was born to Elva and Walter Braddock on March 26, 1924. She attended the Mer Rouge schools and later Louisiana Business School in Monroe.

In her years of strength she operated Dewey’s Grocery and the Mer
Rouge Grocery for 45 years with her husband and sons. She especially cared for her customers because they were her friends and neighbors. She strived to be kind and welcoming to all.

Mary Katherine was so blessed to be able to remain independently in her home of many years due to the love and support of her grandchildren. She rarely left home but looked forward to visits from family and friends. She enjoyed the Christian ministry on television and her daily Bible readings along with the spiritual commentaries that she subscribed to. She will truly be missed because she was the heart and soul of her family. She was the epitome of JOY; Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself (her) last.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dewey Faulkenbury of 58 years; sons, Dewey Wayne and Walter Faulkenbury; Sisters, Meredith Cox and Dola Ryan; Son-in-law, Gerald Johnson; Grandson, Darren Johnson; and Granddaughter; Gerilyn Johnson; and nephew, Rodney Ryan;
