Obituary for Larry Eugene Haynes

Larry Eugene "Gene" Haynes went home to Jesus on Sunday, December 13, 2020. Gene was born in Bucker, AR, to Pauline Smith and Torby Haynes on November 27, 1934. He served in the US Navy from 1953-1961. His service was on the USS Orleck during the Korean War as a sonarman. After his naval service, he received a degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana Tech University. He worked for the USDA in the Soil Conservation Service. After retiring from the USDA, he spent time as a substitute teacher in Waldron, AR.

He enjoyed the outdoors spending time fishing, golfing and traveling. His love for helping people allowed him to travel in his RV doing ministry work with Campers on Mission. When he wasn't traveling with volunteer work, he stayed near his home in Lawrenceburg, TN, to volunteer at New Prospect Baptist Church in the Stephens Ministry. He also spent many hours at Camp Linden where assisted with repair and construction projects.

Gene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Billie Ann (Ruple) Haynes; daughter Paige Haynes Hodnett; grandsons Luke, Lane, and Levi Hodnett of West Monroe. He is preceded in death by his son, Paul Haynes.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date in Lawrenceburg, TN. Memorials may be made in Gene's honor to:
