Joyce Edwina Herrington

Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service Sunday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Cheniere Baptist Cemetery in West Monroe under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

Mrs. Herrington was born October 31, 1942 in Mt. Olive, MS and passed from this life on March 21, 2019 in Monroe, LA at the age of 76. She was a grocery clerk for over 30 years and she made lots of friends with coworkers and customers during that time, especially at Harvest Foods where she last worked. She was a Sunday school teacher through the years and was also a member of First West Church. She had a “green thumb” and loved working in the garden, growing flowers and reaped the benefit of watching things grow and come to life. Mrs. Joyce was an awesome, talented seamstress and spent many years sewing for her family and others, and also enjoyed arts and crafts. She was many times described as sweet, honest, and dependable. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and a friend to all who met her. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her father, Taft Richardson and wife, Myrtle; her mother, Clara Bell Richardson; her sister, Carolyn Sullivan; her grandson, Blake McIntyre; and daughter-in-law, Susan Herrington.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Lavell Herrington; her children, Eddie Herrington and wife, Annette, Connie Collins and husband, Steve of Pearl, MS, Patricia Taylor of West Monroe, and Roger Herrington and wife, Melissa of West Monroe; one nephew, Mitchell Sullivan and wife, Kristi of Brandon, MS; also survived by eight grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Joey Collins, Chris Collins, Mitchell Sullivan, Daniel Herrington, Justin Herrington and Tyler Herrington. Honorary pallbearer will be Haleigh Herrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in her memory to Parkinson’s Foundation @ Parkinson.org

Mom was such an inspirational to me and others, She was loved more than she knew, she suffered so much emotional and physical pain on earth and I know she is healed from it all now but there is so much that I don’t understand about the pain we suffer here, I will continue to have faith in God as I know HE loved her mom than I, I have missed her EVERY day since her “Hip Surgery” when Dementia took her from us,

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Mrs. Herrington for your loss. No doubt she lived a long, fulfilling life and you will miss her dearly. I hope you can draw comfort from Gods word, as I have, where He promises us that there is going to be a resurrection and that we can be reunited with our dear loved ones again - right here on the earth. (John 5:28,29; Psalms 37:9,10; jw.org.)

I was saddened to learn of Mrs. Joyce’s passing but i know you are comforted by her strong faith and the assurance that she is with the Lord now. I was in Bible study with her some years ago at1st West and was so blessed by her quiet, caring ways. You all are in my prayers for God’s special touch as you press on without this very special lady.
