Obituary

Funeral services for Jessie W. Lenard, 80, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Trinity Baptist Church, West Monroe. Bro. Marvin Wink and Bro. Glenn Lenard will be officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Jessie passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 6, 2020 after battling cancer. He was surrounded by his family and his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Dorothy Lee Lenard.

Jessie was born on October 29, 1939 in Ouachita Parish on the banks of Prairion. He was the fifth of six children born to William Joseph and Willie Ann (Hinton) Lenard.

Jessie was loved by many and never met a stranger. His smile lit up every room he entered and his laugh was infectious. He loved the Lord with all his heart. Jessie was a 32nd Mason and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and friend to everyone he knew. He loved his family fiercely and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gospel music. He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement, spending time with his wife and his breakfast club friends as well as attending local church gospel singings with his wife and friends. I guarantee you, we were truly blessed to know and love him. He was one of a kind.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters, Lillie Harper and Dorothy Dunn; brothers, Leavel Lenard and James William (JW) Lenard; niece, Mary Alice Dunn; brother-in-law, James (Sonny) Sowell; and sister-in-law, Gloria Lee.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lee Lenard; son, Rusty Lenard and wife Kimberly; granddaughter, Jessica Thornhill and husband Matthew; great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Thornhill; brother, Riley Lenard and wife Virginia; sisters-in-law: Pearlie Sowell, Betty Aikens and husband, Rudy, Debbie Lenard and husband, Randy; brother-in-law, JE Lee; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and other family members and close friends.

Pallbearers are Buddy Lee, Brian Lenard, Richard Dunn, Scott Thomas, Jason Lenard, and Justin Lenard. Honorary pallbearers are Carl Dunn and Bud Rochell.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Trinity Baptist Church, West Monroe.
