Obituary for Janette Morris (Alexander)
Celebration of life for Janette Morris of West Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday December 27, 2019 at Highland Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Skip Dean and Dr. John Matthews officiating.
Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery, under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home.
Family and friends are welcome for visitation, Friday, December 27, 2019 from 12pm until time of service at Highland Baptist Church.

“A faithful Servant”
Born 11-20-1943 Home with Jesus 12-22-2019
Janette was born November 11, 1943 in Brownwood, Texas to Guy and Louise Alexander and big brother Howard, all of which have preceded her in death. Guy and Louise raised this Texas girl in a God loving home, brought her to Jesus, taught her hard work, to love others, and to be a servant and witness of Christ.
At 16 years of age in the spring of 1960 in Hobbs, New Mexico, Janette met who would become the love of her life for the next 59 years, Jimmy Morris from Oak Grove, LA. Janette met Jimmy at the local drive in where all the young people gathered. Janette was there on a horse and Jimmy saw this beautiful cowgirl and they fell in love.
Janette married Jimmy on August 20, 1960 in Hobbs, New Mexico. In 1962 she gave birth to their first son Jimbo in Hobbs, New Mexico. They moved to Fort Stockton, Texas and in 1964 added another boy, Greg. In 1965 they moved to Monroe, LA for Jimmy to begin his postal service career. In 1968 a third boy was added, Brian. In 1977 Janette gave birth to a girl, Tonya. The immediate family was then complete.
Janette’s Christ loving family has grown and those left to cherish her memories include husband of 59 years, Jimmy Morris of West Monroe, LA; three sons, Jimbo Morris of Rayville, LA, Greg Morris and wife Aimee of Tyler, Texas, Brian Morris and wife Tami of West Monroe, LA and daughter Tonya and husband John Matthews of Hazlehurst, MS; ten grandchildren, Kristin Chandler, Zach Morris, Austin Morris, Lauren Morris, Alex Matthews, Brooke Morris, Megan Morris, Abby Matthews, Landon Morris, Andrew Matthews; one great grandchild, Livy Chandler; Also, survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
Janette served Christ with all her heart. She served her family and friends with all her heart as well. She was a hardworking, strong woman with a multitude of talents and used those God given gifts to serve Christ, friends, and family.
Janette used her hard work and talents to support her family her entire life. She never stopped working. Never retired. Took very few vacations. Her servant heart never stopped.
Everyone who knows Janette, knows her as a joyful servant but her favorite place to serve was the church. She loved AWANA, VBS arts & crafts, singing in the choir and chaperoning numerous youth trips.
Janette loved all animals and used her talent with them especially horses to help support her family. Her love continued to be exhibited by the care she gave. She’d even be their vet when needed. Her reputation and respect in the horse industry was outstanding.
Janette used her arts & crafts talent to support her family. She painted, made jewelry, and created multitudes of unique craftworks that many will cherish forever.
Janette was also known to be an incredible cook and amazing baker. Janette used her talent of cooking to support her family and to provide support to others.
In addition, Janette spent the last 30 years working in Canton, Texas once a month at the trade days. She bought and sold vintage jewelry and antiques.
Janette touched the lives of many throughout her life. Those who had the privilege of meeting her will always remember her kind heart, sense of style, and beautiful smile. There was no doubt that she loved her Saints too and probably their number 1 fan.
Janette’s life was a true example of Christ’s love and compassion. Her faith, hard work, love for others, and unfailing strength were always on display no matter the trials or challenges that faced her.
Janette has received her crown and now is home in heaven with Jesus, continuing to be “a faithful servant”.
