Obituary for Ingeborg Brigitte Armstrong

Ingeborg “Inge” Armstrong was a caring mother, Oma, sister and friend. She departed this world on May 15, 2023, at the age of 76.

She was born to Anton and Lidwilla “Lilli” Gasteiger on June 19, 1946, in Braunau am Inn, Austria where she spent her youth and young adult years. She was the middle child of three with Günther (brother) the eldest and Ilse (sister) the youngest. Despite the distance, she remained in close contact and enjoyed her visits back home.

Inge met and fell in love with Melvin Judge. They were married in Chicago in the 1971 and remained married until his untimely death. She later met, fell in love and married Shelton Ralph Armstrong in 1977. Together they became the parents of two wonderful children, Tammi and Shani Armstrong. She affectionately referred to them as her Schätze meaning “treasure” in German. She loved her children and dedicated her life to them.

Inge was a dedicated employee at E.A. Conway and retired in 2010. After retirement, the simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy. She enjoyed taking daily walks and attending water aerobics classes at the Wellness Center where she gained many lifelong friendships. She had a deep love for animals, especially her fur babies Minky, Mimi, and River. Inge also loved to shop and cook, but most of all she adored spending time with her grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua, loving them greater than she imagined possible.

Inge was a devoted member of Harvest Church where she served faithfully. She cheerfully volunteered whenever needed, served as a Sunday school teacher, provided transportation and was an avid contributor to church missions. She, without a doubt, loved her church family dearly.

Her legacy will continue through the lives of her children, Tammi Armstrong (Mike Dizer), West Monroe; Shani Armstrong (Shaq Lister), Desoto, TX; Stepdaughter JoElla Armstrong, Denver, Co; Sister Ilse Würflingsdobler, Simbach a. Inn, Austria; Brother Günther Gasteiger, Braunau am Inn, Austria; Sister-in-law Judith Washington, Lake Charles, La; Daughter-in- law Norma Armstrong, West Monroe; 10 grandchildren through marriage, 3 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
