After a very full life, Mom went to be with the LORD on Friday, April 17, 2020. Helen Odom Ketchell was born in Ruston, LA and lived most of her life in West Monroe. Helen’s last earthly place of residence was Azalea Estates Assisted Living in Monroe, where she had many friends and also many flowers to enjoy.

Her husband of over 50 years, S. E. Fairell “Curley” Ketchell, predeceased her by 18 years and one day. Helen is survived by three sons, Steven and wife Linda of Siloam Springs AR; Jerry and wife Brigitta of Heflin, LA; and Mark and wife Becky of Swartz, LA. She has two Grand-Daughters, Karma Ketchell and husband Tobias of New Orleans, LA and Jenni Bulloch and husband Seth of Swartz, LA, along with two Great-Grand sons, Colton Bulloch and Caden Bulloch.

The most important things to Helen were her faith in GOD and the love for her Family. Reunions were a big thing for her and she always wanted to keep both her immediate and distant family close. Following these very closely was her love of flowers. As long as we can remember, she was a active member of at least two garden clubs – the Northeast Flower Society and the West Monroe Garden Club. Growing up, the yard was always in bloom with brilliant colors attracting bees, birds and butterflies.

Helen has left us now, and the outpouring of love and support from friends and family has been tremendous. While we will certainly miss her, we ask that you not be sad – but rather join us to celebrate her life. Mom was a Christian and is in a far better place, no longer constrained by a body that was slowing her down. In this Spring of the year, just as high-schoolers seniors head to college and college completers begin their careers, Helen too, has graduated to the next stage. She will be watching out for us and planting flower gardens all over Heaven. Don’t be sad, but instead stop and smell a rose, pause to enjoy a garden, watch a bright colored bird or share a kind word with someone. Enjoy life, just like Helen did – That’s the best way to remember and honor her.
