Gretel Leykauf Fletcher

Memorial services for Mrs. Gretel Leykauf Fletcher of West Monroe will be 11:00am Friday, April 19, 2019 at Faith Christian Church, 1411 Hwy 15 West Monroe, with Pastor J.J. Holyfield officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of service Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home West Monroe.

Mrs. Fletcher was born July 24, 1936 in Bad Windsheim, Germany and passed from this life on April 16, 2019 in West Monroe, LA at the age of 82. She was a hard worker and retired from U.S.A. at the age of 76. She was a member of Faith Christian Church and loved her pastor and church family very much and especially enjoyed attending church. She loved to cook, especially German food, from her native country. Before she retired she would cook lunch every Thursday for every single employee at USA where she worked. Gretel enjoyed word search puzzles, listening to country music and she loved to knit. She had a “green thumb” and took pride in gardening, especially vegetables, and would provide her family with plenty to eat. In her latter years, she was always known for her common phrase “Okay”, which was her answer to everything. More than anything, family was her life, she never met a stranger, and she was a friend to all who met her. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther L. Fletcher; her son, William Lee Wood; her parents, Johann and Anna Leykauf; and her siblings, Hermann, Hansie, Johann, Alfred, Albin and Hannchen Leykauf, and Babett Ruffershofer.

Survivors include her children, Annie Jones and husband, Al of Calhoun, Judy Keller and husband, Leon of Junction City, KS, Glenn Wood and wife, Karen of Orlando, FL, Barbara Langford and husband, Jerry of Gastonia, NC, and Thomas McCormick of Junction City, KS; one sister, Anneliese Rossman of Bad Windsheim, Germany; one brother, Rudolph Leykauf of Bad Windsheim, Germany; seven grandchildren, Michelle Carrier and husband, Jake Miller, Daniel Whitefoot and wife, Shellee, Shannon Hesser, John Whitefoot, Christina Gantt and husband, Alex, Amanda Whitefoot and T.J. McCormick; seven great-grandchildren, Kylie Carrier, C.J. Carrier, Tierney Whitefoot, Bianca Whitefoot, Madison Hesser, Bailey Whitefoot, Whitaker Gantt, and a baby girl coming in May of 2019; also survived by a host of extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations are made in memory of Mrs. Gretel to Faith Christian Church Youth Group in West Monroe.
