Obituary for Eloise Smith

Funeral services for Mrs. Eloise Scarborough Smith will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Sterlington Church of Christ, with Rev. Don Delukie officiating. There will be a visitation from 12:00 to 2:00 prior to the service. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Taylor Cemetery in Farmerville under the direction of Griffin Funeral Home of West Monroe.

Eloise was born September 22, 1927 in Farmerville and went to be with her Lord on August 30, 2022 at her home in Sterlington, La at age 94. Though known as Eloise, she was most often called “Maw” by the host of family she cared for during her life. She cherished being surrounded by her family and visiting with her sisters. She delighted in caring for her immaculate yard filled with beautiful plants and finding the best deals in town. She would listen intently to story after story from family and friends, who were always welcome, knowing Maw was available to listen, love, laugh, and care.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry W. Smith, son, Melvin Keith Smith, sisters Nell Smith and Trudy Bishop, and parents, Harry and Onnie Lee Hodge Scarborough.
She is survived by her sons, Terry Smith and Ricky Smith (Teresa), sister June Murphy (Robert), grandsons Darran Smith, Bradley Smith (Teresa), and David Smith, granddaughters Angela Nettles (Jimmy), Penelope Hixson, and Toni Tarrance (James), and a beloved host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom love her dearly and have benefitted from her gentle and steadfast support.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Bishop, Reggie Bishop, David Gann, Raymond LeBrun, JD Nettles, and JaKobe Nettles.

The family wishes to offer heartfelt gratitude to the Sterlington Church of Christ for their attentive and hospitable care. We are exceedingly grateful for the faithfulness of Jesus to bring His beloved home, yet we grieve the loss of our sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Please share your memories with us.
