Obituary for Aubrey Maurice Simpkins

Aubrey Maurice “Red” Simpkins was born February 24, 1942 and passed from this life May 13, 2021 at the age of 79.

He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife and mother of his children, Sandy Simpkins; parents, Tello and Eva Simpkins; siblings, Gene Simpkins (Pattyce), and Gladys Frazier.

After graduating from West Monroe High School in 1960, he enlisted as a US Navy Medical Corpsman where he served at several military hospitals. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Sandy Brady. Together they had two children, Sonja and Aubrey, Jr.

“Red” worked for Olin Kraft Paper Mill in West Monroe where he eventually retired as a pipefitter after 35 years. He was an active member of the American Veterans Organization (AMVETS). He loved music and was known for his beautiful singing voice. When not spending time with friends and family he loved to travel, fish, and be outdoors. “Red” is also fondly remembered for his impeccable wit and sense of humor.

Survivors include his daughter, Sonja Simpkins Bamburg, and son, Aubrey M. Simpkins, Jr.; grandchildren, Trey Manos (Brittany), Tyler Bamburg (Morgan), Blaise Morgan (Justin), and Victoria McDonald (Patrick), Eva Simpkins, Tullie Simpkins, and Bain Simpkins; great-grandchildren, Griffen Manos and Rylen Manos; also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends and loved ones.

Pallbearers include Aubrey Simpkins, Jr., Randy Simpkins, Trey Manos, Justin Morgan, Patrick McDonald, and Jonathan Ainsworth.

Honorary pallbearers include SSG Tyler Bamburg who is currently serving in Kuwait, Bain Simpkins, Griffen Manos, and Rylen Manos.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bart Liles MD, Lauren Erwin ANP-PC, Osiris RN, Daniel RN, and the special nurses on the post-operative unit at Saint Francis Medical Center, Monroe, LA; Dr. Shireesha Palla MD, and the staff at the VA Medical Clinic in Monroe, LA; Hospice Compassus and Serenity Care Providers for their attention and compassionate care. Lastly, we would like to thank Karitha Harper for being such a bright smile and giving laughter to him in the last season of his life.
